RSP Electrical holds full ATEX certification for electrical inspection and installation work in classified explosive atmosphere environments. We work across Zone 0, 1 and 2 gas hazard areas and Zone 20, 21 and 22 dust hazard areas throughout the UK.

Working in classified hazardous areas demands a level of specialist knowledge that most electrical contractors simply do not possess. RSP Electrical holds full ATEX certification and our engineers are trained and qualified to work in Zone 0, Zone 1, and Zone 2 explosive atmosphere environments, covering both gas and dust hazards.
We carry out initial ATEX inspections to assess the condition and compliance of existing installations, produce detailed inspection reports, and carry out remedial work where required. For new installations, we specify, supply, and install ATEX-rated equipment to the full requirements of the directive, providing complete documentation and certification on completion.
Our work is carried out in accordance with the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, BS EN 60079 series standards, and the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR). Every inspection and installation is fully documented to provide a clear audit trail for your safety case.
Gas & Dust Hazard Zones
An explosive gas atmosphere is present continuously or for long periods. Requires the highest level of equipment protection (Category 1G).
An explosive gas atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation. Requires Category 1G or 2G equipment.
An explosive gas atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation but may do so infrequently. Requires Category 1G, 2G, or 3G equipment.
A cloud of flammable dust is present continuously or for long periods. Requires Category 1D equipment.
A cloud of flammable dust is likely to occur in normal operation. Requires Category 1D or 2D equipment.
A cloud of flammable dust is not likely to occur in normal operation but may do so infrequently. Requires Category 1D, 2D, or 3D equipment.
